Oklahoma Wheat Commission to hold District I election
The Oklahoma Wheat Commission will hold an election May 12 to fill an open District I board seat. The election is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Grant County Expo Center, 412 Sixth St., Pond Creek, Oklahoma.
District I includes Alfalfa, Garfield, Grant and Major counties. Wheat producers within the district who are actively engaged in production and have marketed wheat during the current marketing year are eligible to vote. Producers must also have paid a checkoff fee and left that fee with the commission for the 2025-26 marketing year, which runs from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026.
Voters are required to verify eligibility at check-in by providing a dated grain elevator receipt that includes the producer’s name and the amount of wheat sold, along with a driver’s license or other identification.
Producers planning to vote must be checked in at the polling booth by 1 p.m., when voting begins.
Candidates seeking the position must be at least 25 years old, Oklahoma residents and actively engaged in growing wheat within the district for at least five years. Candidates also must derive a substantial portion of their income from wheat production.
Three nominees will be selected at the election. The Oklahoma secretary of agriculture will appoint one of those nominees to serve a five-year term on the commission.
Lunch will be served at noon, sponsored by the Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association.
Producers are encouraged to participate in the election. Additional information is available from the Oklahoma Wheat Commission at 405-608-4350.
