Kansas Corn summer listening tour visits five communities

The annual summer listening tours are back for the 11th year and will stop at five locations throughout July and August.

The tour will begin in Seneca, then continue in Moundridge, St. John, Scott City and end in Sublette. Farmers, agribusiness leaders and community members are invited to receive updates on local research, federal and state policy and more. Events are free to attend.

Each stop will feature discussions on local issues, featured topics and Kansas Corn efforts. The Summer Listening Tours are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

• The Seneca event will be hosted July 21 at the Sts. Peter and Paul School Cafeteria in Seneca from 6 to 8 p.m., with registration and beverages beginning at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will hear about corn export opportunities to Mexico and new atrazine labeling impacts for farmers.
• The Moundridge event will be hosted July 22 at Hub Brick Oven and Brewery in Moundridge from 6 to 8 p.m., with registration and beverages beginning at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will hear from farmers implementing the proposed atrazine mitigation measure this growing season.
• The St. John event will be hosted July 23 at two locations. The first stop will be a research field plot tour southeast of St. John at 4:30 p.m., followed by the main program at Fisher’s Shed from 6 to 8 p.m., with registration and beverages beginning at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will tour a research plot focused on generic versus name-brand fungicide efficacy, yield effects and plant population effects. The listening tour program will focus on water issues in the area.
• The Scott City event will be hosted Aug. 11 at Mom & Pops in Scott City from noon to 2 p.m., with registration and beverages beginning at 11:30 a.m. Attendees will hear from Allie Devine on wind, solar and data centers, where the issues stand and what farmers need to know.
• The Sublette event will be hosted Aug. 11 at the Sublette American Legion Hall in Sublette from 6 to 8 p.m., with registration and beverages beginning at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will hear from Allie Devine on wind, solar and data centers, where the issues stand and what farmers need to know.

These events are designed to provide timely updates on key issues affecting agriculture and the community while giving attendees an opportunity to enjoy a meal and network with farmers in the area. Each stop is intended to share information and gather feedback from corn growers, whose input is valued by the Kansas Corn Growers Association and Kansas Corn Commission boards as they plan future efforts.
