Eureka Downs resumes live horse racing after 17-year hiatus
History is coming back to life in Eureka, Kansas. After more than a decade, live parimutuel horse racing returns to Eureka Downs on Oct. 17—the first time since 2009.
Horses have already arrived, and finishing touches are being made on the facility. The energy is building for this incredible event.
This fall meet brings something rarely seen in American racing: five different breeds competing at the same track. Fans will see Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Paints, Appaloosas, and Arabians—all racing on the same day.
Racing continues across six dates: Oct. 17 and 18, Oct. 24 and 25, and Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Admission is $5, and parking is free. A limited number of tables may still be available in the Turf Room overlooking the track. For reservations, call 620‑559‑2040.
Opening day will feature a ribbon cutting, VIP remarks, and the official kickoff of what organizers describe as a renaissance for Kansas racing—one expected to support agriculture, rural jobs, and equine businesses across the state.
Spectators can get up close in the paddock, watch jockeys mount for the post parade, and follow every stride on a jumbo LED video board that makes every seat feel like the front row. And with TVs throughout the clubhouse, you won’t miss a moment while placing a bet or grabbing a bite.
For bettors, Eureka Downs is introducing the Fortune 6—a 20‑cent pick‑six wager seeded with $3,000. Pick the winners of six races in a row, and you could take home the entire pot.
This meet is made possible through funding from Historical Horse Racing machines at Gilley’s in Park City, the event’s chief sponsor.
Eureka Downs invites racing fans and newcomers alike to experience all six days of live racing—each one offering something different as Kansas welcomes back a sanctioned professional sport with deep roots and a bright future.
