Sen. Moran announces $49.5 million federal investment for western Kansas railroad

U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-KS, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, announced a $49.5 million investment from the U.S. Department of Transportation for Kyle Railroad’s east-west corridor in Phillips County. The funding was administered through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Program.

In April, Moran sent a letter supporting the rail project proposed by Phillips County, the city of Goodland and Kyle Railroad to improve the railroad’s infrastructure and install technologies to improve safety and efficiency.

“The Kyle Railroad in western Kansas helps farmers move their crops to markets … supporting rural businesses and communities,” Moran said. “This investment will bolster Phillips County, Goodland and the surrounding region by supporting repairs and updates to the rail and making certain it is equipped with the latest technology.”
