Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 1,118 head selling on April 9, compared to 518 head a week ago and 815 head last year, according to the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling mostly steady to $2 higher. Several value added and thin cattle suitable for grazing were selling with a $2 to $10 premium. Fleshy new crop calves were selling with a $6 to $10 discount. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady. Value added denotes cattle that have been weaned at least 45 days, castrated and administered two sets of pre-conditioning vaccines. Fleshy new crop denotes unweaned milk fat calves. The supply included 607 feeder calves, 248 feeder yearlings, 124 replacement cows, 113 slaughter cows, 21 slaughter bulls and 5 replacement bulls. The feeder supply included 47% steers, 43% heifers and 9% bulls. Nearly 31% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
