McAlester livestock auction report
The McAlester Union Livestock Auction, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 2,250 head selling Nov. 28, compared to 3,100 head Nov. 14 and 2,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to the Nov. 14 sale, steer calves under 500 pounds were selling $4 to $7 higher, over 500 pounds were selling $1 to $5 lower. Heifer calves under 500 pounds were selling $5 to $7 lower, over 500 pounds were selling $1 to $4 higher. Quality was average but improved with time, with good quality calves coming in late in the auction. Demand was good. The supply included 19% over 600 pounds with 45% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were selling $5 higher. A total of 445 cows and bulls sold with 48% going to packers.
