McAlester livestock auction report
The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 2,300 head selling on May 1, compared to 1,100 head a week ago and 1,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 600 pounds were selling $2 to $8 higher, over 600 pounds were selling $1 to $4 lower. Heifer calves were selling $2 to $5 lower. Quality was average through attractive, mostly attractive. Demand was good. The supply included 28% over 600 pounds with 47% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $5 to $7 lower. Slaughter bulls were selling $2 lower. Packer demand was moderate at best. A total of 500 cows and bulls sold with 32% going to packers.
