Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,765 head selling on Nov. 8, compared to 2,340 head a week ago and 3,088 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 550 pounds were selling firm to $2 higher, over 550 pounds were selling steady except fleshy kinds that were selling $1 to $3 lower. There were not enough feeder steers and heifers on offer for an adequate market test. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady to $1 lower. Trade was fairly active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 14%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 86%. The feeder supply included 50% steers and 50% heifers. Nearly 34% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
