Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,743 head selling on March 22, compared to 2,344 head a week ago and 2,203 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers under 700 pounds were selling mostly steady, over 700 pounds were selling $1 to $2 lower, except 700 to 800-pound steers that were trading firm to $1 higher. Several strings of steer and heifer yearlings off wheat or winter grass were included in the offering. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 lower. Trade was active on moderate demand. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 950-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 11%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 89%. The feeder supply included 42% steers and 58% heifers. Nearly 82% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
