Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,827 head selling on Jan. 25, compared to 1,450 head a week ago and 1,933 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling firm to $2 higher. Feeder steers and heifers 600 to 700 pounds were selling firm to $2 higher, over 700 pounds were selling $1 to $2 lower and a few packages were firm. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 16%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 84%. The feeder supply included 68% steers and 32% heifers, nearly 67% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
