Hub City livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 6,060 head on Feb. 21, compared to 5,874 head last week and 8,238 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the steers weighing 700 to 1,000 pounds were selling $1 to $3 lower except those from 750 to 800 pounds were not well tested for comparison with instances up to $6 lower on those from 850 to 900 pounds. The heifers 650 to 850 pounds were mostly steady. There was good to very good demand for another large offering, which sold on an active market. There was very attractive quality again this week with several loads and packages of replacement quality heifers included in the offering. The flesh was mostly moderate to moderate plus and some heavy at times. There were negative numbers in both feeder and live cattle futures, but demand for the cattle remained strong. The steers made up 51% of the feeder supply and heifers were 49% with 98% over 600 pounds.
