Springfield dairy heifer sale

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, Dec. 18, reported receipts of 239 head of dairy heifers selling, compared to 690 head a month ago and 352 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Jefferson City, Missouri.

The supply was light and the demand was moderate. Included were 13% springer heifers, 06% bred heifers, 30% open heifers, 04% fresh and milking cows, 01% bred and springer cows and 10% baby calves. The balance was steers, bulls and slaughter cows. Prices reported are on a per head basis and for Holsteins unless noted otherwise.

Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme 1000.00 to 1250.00. Approved 700.00 to 975.00, few crossbreds 900.00 to 975.00. Medium few 650.00, individual Jersey 525.00. Common individual 500.00. Heifers bred three to six months, Supreme 785.00 to 860.00. Approved 690.00 to 775.00. Medium individual crossbred 690.00. Heifers bred one to three months, approved to 650.00 to 750.00.

Open heifers: Approved, 200 to 283 lbs., 200.00 to 270.00, Jerseys 300.00 to 380.00; 345 to 390 lbs., 350.00 to 380.00, individual Jersey 325 lbs., 350.00; 460 lbs., individual 360.00; 590 lb., package 6 Jerseys 560.00; 623 to 688 lbs., 400.00 to 580.00, few crossbreds 400.00; 712 to 784 lbs., 460.00 to 570.00. Medium, 320 to 395 lbs., few 200.00 to 260.00; 405 to 500 lbs., 170.00 to 290.00; 570 lbs., package 2 340.00, few Jerseys 290.00 to 370.00; 785 lb., individual 350.00.

Replacement cows: Fresh and milking cows, Supreme few 1025.00 to 1125.00.00. Approved 825.00 to 875.00. Medium individual 725.00. Common 400.00 to 450.00.
