Wet fields continue to affect harvest progress (Minnesota)
Wet fields continued to affect harvest progress during the week ending Nov. 4, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Upper Midwest Regional Field Office, Minnesota. There were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork. Field activities for the week included harvesting corn, soybeans, potatoes, sunflowers and sugarbeets. Reports of fertilizer application and fall tillage were also received.
Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 0 percent very short, 2 percent short, 68 percent adequate and 30 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 67 percent adequate and 26 percent surplus.
Corn harvested for grain was 78 percent complete, 8 days ahead of last year. Corn moisture content of grain at harvest averaged 18 percent, down 1 percentage point from last week. Ninety-four percent of the soybean crop was harvested, one week behind last year and nine days behind average.
Sunflower harvest was 73 percent complete, 6 days behind average. Potato harvest was nearing completion at 97 percent complete. Sugarbeet harvest was 99 percent complete.
