Colorado to test GMO wheat

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved Genetically Modified Organism technology wheat for production in the US. The approved trait is HB 4, a drought tolerant transgenic gene found in sunflower.

The HB 4 trait was developed by an Argentine Company, Bioceres. This trait, when fully approved for U.S. production, will be integrated into already released wheat varieties. From that point, local production testing will occur on Colorado farms. Released varieties are expected to be generally available in three to five years.
