Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report

The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 2,920 head Oct. 12, compared to 5,402 head a week ago and 8,231 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves from 400 to 450 pounds were selling $2 to $4 lower, the 450 to 650 pound steers were selling $3 to $6 higher. Heifer calves 400 to 500 pounds were selling steady to $2 lower, 500 to 550 pound heifers were selling steady to $2 higher. There were no comparisons made on yearlings due to the limited supply making it to town. Good to very good demand of fully pre-conditioned, high quality calves. The offering included 20% over 600 pounds with 58% steers and 42% heifers.
