NTOP field day showcases benefits of soil health practices

Whirlwind Farms near Bucklin, Kansas hosted a No-Till on the Plains field day, Oct. 10. Lance Feikert discussed his cover crops, chicken grazing and honey bees during his segment of the tour.

Jorge Garibay with NAPA bees detailed how honey bees made their way to Kansas, why they’re needed in the landscape of western Kansas and their lifecycle. Garibay also shared honey comb and attendees were able to harvest honey.

Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Candy Thomas, a soil health specialist, demonstrated the rainfall simulator which shows where the water goes on varying soil types and farming applications. Thomas also demonstrated aggregate stability and nutrient efficiency.
