Special Agent Jim Pinegar of the Livestock Investigation Unit of the Kansas Attorney General Office and Greenwood County Sheriff Office conducted an investigation leading to a 3-count felony conviction of John Byron Cannon for theft of cattle.

After a jury trial prosecuted by Greenwood County Attorney Jill R. Gillett on Dec. 12 to 13, the defendant was convicted of theft of cattle from Greenwood County, Kansas. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 15, 2024.

The Fredonia Livestock Auction cooperated to protect the integrity of cattle sales in Kansas. County Attorney Gillett said, “Cattle production is an integral part of the Flint Hills and working to protect that within Greenwood County protects the long-term livelihood of the farmers and ranchers that work hard to produce cattle. Protecting the industry keeps income coming to the small towns we reside in.”

KFRM 550 AM, Clay Center, Kansas, will be issuing a $5,000 reward to be shared by Rodney Shaw and Janet Tuck for their part in gathering evidence and locating the cattle.

Special Agent Pinegar said, “Mr. Shaw and Mrs. Tuck are a credit to their community, Kansas, and the livestock industry.”

Tuck and Shaw are employees of Fredonia Livestock Auction.
