With trailers lining the streets outside of Heartland Regional Stockyards, a sense of excitement could be felt surrounding the special FFA sale, hosted at the selling facility Feb. 13 in Plainville,

When the gavel fell at the end of the day, 4,737 head were sold as a part of the sale, it’s safe to say that livestock producers took advantage of the opportunity to support agriculture’s future leaders.

Impressive results

Lloyd Schneider, of the Heartland Regional Stockyards, was pleased with the final result.

“We are ecstatic with the number of producers that showed up to sell or buy cattle as well as those who showed up to support the event,” Schneider said. “Supporting the work of the Kansas FFA and local FFA Chapters is important to our team because the FFA teaches and exposes our youth to experiences and knowledge that no other educational organization offers.”

Sellers and buyers could donate $1 per head at the sale to support the Kansas FFA Foundation and a local chapter of their choosing. Heartland Regional Stockyards matched 100% of all per-head donations for the sale.

FFA members assist

Area FFA members from the Natoma, Logan, Palco, Phillipsburg, Plainville, and Stockton chapters attended to help with the event. Members helped check in cattle, served the meal, catered by TK BBQ, and enjoyed seeing the support of FFA from local livestock producers.

Through the sale 12 local FFA chapters received donations to help provide experiences for students. Chapters receiving donations are: Central Plains, Ellis, Hays, Hill City, Hoxie, Logan, Natoma, Palco, Phillipsburg, Plainville, Russell, and Stockton.

Logan FFA Member, Hayden Gottstine expressed his gratitude for the sale.

“It was a great day and I really enjoyed talking to all the truck drivers, farmers and ranchers that came to the sale barn to support FFA,” said Gottstine. “I just wish I wasn’t a senior so I could be there again next year.”

Plans are already underway for the 2025 Special FFA Sale at Heartland Regional Stockyards. Further details of the specific date will be released at a later time.

The Kansas FFA Foundation is grateful to the producers who showed up to support this cause.
