Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 2,080 head selling on May 7, compared to 2,312 head a week ago and 760 head last year, according to the University of Arkansas Coop Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling mostly $3 to $4 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $3 lower. Value added denotes cattle weaned at least 45 days, castrated and administered two sets of pre-conditioning vaccines. Fleshy denotes unweaned new crop calves. The supply included 1156 feeder calves, 406 feeder yearlings, 364 replacement cows including over 200 pre-consigned Corriente cows sold in addition to regular sale, 111 slaughter cows, 21 slaughter bulls and 22 replacement bulls. The feeder supply included 54% steers, 38% heifers and 8% bulls. Nearly 27% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
