McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Auction, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 2,425 head selling Oct. 23, compared to 1,200 head a week ago and 1,950 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling $3 to $7 higher. Heifer calves under 450 pounds were selling $13 higher, over 450 pounds were selling $3 to $8 higher. Demand was very good for all classes. Quality was average through attractive. The supply included 29% over 600 pounds 43% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling steady to $5 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $2 lower. A total of 350 cows and bulls sold with 49% going to packers.

Replacement cows: All were pre-tested for pregnancy and age. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 825 to 1275 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average/high quality 835.00 to 1000.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1025 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 850.00 to 1175.00.
