Winter Livestock Auction report
The Winter Livestock Auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported estimated receipts of 2,500 head selling Dec. 12, compared to 5,101 head a week ago and 2,945 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.
This was the mid-session report. Compared to a week ago, feeder steers 650 to 700 pounds were selling steady to $3 higher. Feeder heifers 600 to 800 pounds were selling $1 to $5 lower. Limited comparable weights on calves. A heavy supply of weaned calves were offered. Steer calves 500 to 550 pounds were selling $4 to $6 lower. Heifer calves 400 to 450 pounds were selling steady to $5 higher. Buyers discounted calves that were short weaned and un-vaccinated. Slaughter cows were selling mostly steady to $1 higher. Bulls were selling $1 higher on limited offerings. Overall, demand was good to very good, quality was average to mostly attractive. The feeder supply included 40% steers, 55% heifers, 05% bulls, with 71% over 600 pounds.
