Aberdeen livestock auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 6,950 head on Feb. 28, compared to 6,060 head last week and 8,000 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the steers weighing under 700 pounds were not well tested last week, those 700 to 750 pounds were steady to $2 higher, those 751 to 800 pounds were too lightly tested last week, those 801 to 900 pounds were mostly steady with instances up to $4 higher and those 901 to 1,000 pounds were selling $2 to $4 lower. The heifers under 650 pounds were too lightly tested last week, those 650 to 750 pounds were selling $1 to $3 higher, those 751 to 850 pounds were mostly steady and those 851 to 900 pounds were selling $2 to $4 lower. There was moderate to good demand for many packages, loads and strings of both home raised and back grounded average to attractive quality cattle that made up this large offering. There was good demand for a few packages and loads of reputation replacement quality heifers. The flesh ran from moderate to heavy. The steers made up 56% of the feeder supply and heifers were 44% with 93% weighing over 600 pounds.
