High Plains slaughter cattle sales report

High Plains weekly weighted average direct slaughter cattle sales for the week ending May 6, totaled 144,038 head selling, compared to 125,764 head a week ago and 140,937 head last year, according to the USDA Livestock, Poultry and Grain Market News Division, St. Joseph, Missouri.

The report was based on sales in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and Minnesota feedlots.

Steers: Live FOB basis, over 80% Choice, 26,036 head, 1,250 to 1,575 lbs., 116.50 to 128.50 (124.75); 65 to 80% Choice, 18,914 head, 1,200 to 1,525 lbs., 117.50 to 127.00 (124.82); 35 to 65% Choice, 8,330 head, 1,150 to 1,600 lbs., 117.50 to 126.50 (124.97).
