Wet weather hinders corn harvest progress (Missouri)

Temperatures for the week ending Oct. 14 averaged 56.8 degrees, 1.1 degrees below normal, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Heartland Regional Field Office, Missouri. Precipitation averaged 2.38 inches statewide, 1.72 inches above normal. There were 1.9 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 8 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 22 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4 percent very short, 22 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Corn harvested progressed to 79 percent this week, only 3 percentage points from last week due to wet weather. Soybeans coloring reached 96 percent. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 85 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 25 percent this week. Soybean condition was rated 7 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Cotton harvested reached 70 percent this week, 20 percentage points ahead of last week. Rice harvested progressed to 85 percent this week. Sorghum matured reached 90 percent, and sorghum harvested progressed to 51 percent this week. Sorghum condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 39 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Winter wheat planted for 2019 progressed to 20 percent this week, with 13 percent emerged.
