Mizzou offers free crop and pest management showcase
The annual Mizzou Crop and Pest Management Field Day is July 8 at the University of Missouri Bradford Research Farm, 8 miles east of Columbia.
“This year the event is expanding, and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the Missouri Soybean Association’s Ag Innovation Showcase after lunch,” said MU Extension state weed scientist Kevin Bradley.
As a result of this unique partnership, there is no registration cost for these events, Bradley said.
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., with tour wagons departing no later than 8:30 a.m. Tour stops include presentations of research results by university scientists.
State Extension plant pathologist Mandy Bish will give an update on fungicide application timing on corn, soilborne diseases and the EPA’s draft fungicide strategy. MU Extension entomologist Ivair Valmorbida will discuss soybean defoliation threshold levels, as well as stink bug and corn leafhopper management.
Bradley and his crew will discuss findings from some ‘future-focused’ weed management research, recent results from experiments on drone application of herbicides, and management of resistant waterhemp and other weed- and herbicide-related topics.
MU Extension state climatologist Zach Leasor, economist Ben Brown and soybean agronomist Andre Reis also will present at tour stops during the morning session.
After the morning tours, attendees can drive or take a shuttle to Missouri Soybean’s Farm for Soy Innovation, which borders Bradford Farm.
The Missouri Soybean Association will provide a free lunch. After that, attendees can take part in the Ag Innovation Showcase, which will feature the latest advancements in crop protection, precision technology and equipment innovation.
While the events are free, attendees are asked to preregister by July 3 so organizers can plan for the appropriate amount of food and refreshments.
