AEM: New tractor and combine sales lag

The latest Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ report notes the sale of agricultural tractors and combines were down by nearly double-digit in all categories during April and continuing a trend Jan. 1.

In summary, 22,201 farm tractors were sold in April, compared to 25,317 units in April 2024, a decline of 12.3%.

The AEM reports farm tractors in several categories. It notes two-wheel drive sales in three segments: less than 40 horsepower, 40 to 100 horsepower and more than 100 horsepower. It also has a category for four-wheel drive.

For two-wheel farm tractors under 40 horsepower, the AEM reported 15,387 units were sold, which was a decline of 10.4% from April 2024 when 17,177 units were sold. For the year-to-date, 38,244 units were sold, compared to 43,374 a year ago, which represented a 11.8% decline. The beginning inventory in April was 75,928 units.

For 40 to 100 horsepower tractors, 4,633 units were sold in April compared to 5,000 units in April 2024, a decline of 7.3%. Year-to-date 14,131 units were sold compared to 15,706 units a year ago, a decline of 10%. The beginning inventory in April was 31,650 units.

For two-wheel drive tractors above 100 horsepower, 1,888 units were sold in April compared to 2,639 units in April 2024, a decline of 28.5%. Year-to-date 5,760 units were sold compared to 7,613 units a year ago. The beginning inventory in April was 9,684 units.

In April, AEM members sold 293 four-wheel drive tractors compared to 501 units in April 2024, a decline of 41.5%. Year-to-date, 829 tractors were sold compared to 1,329 during the same period a year ago. That is a decline of 37.4%. The beginning inventory in April was 771 units.

Self-propelled combines

In April, AEM member companies sold 414 combines in April, which was down from 608 units in April 2024, a decline of 31.9%. Year-to-date, 936 new combines were sold compared to 1,809 units in the same period a year ago. That represents a 48.3% decline. The beginning inventory in April was 1,153 units.
